Venus von Willendorf/Venusium

The Venusium takes visitors back to the Stone Age with finds and information about the first female figurines in human history.

The small statuette was probably the ideal of beauty for an entire era in human history: obese, with heavy breasts and wide hips, the limestone figure from the Stone Age is a real eye-catcher. Recommended for a little trip back in time: The "Venusium", just a few steps away from the discovery site. This small, fine museum takes its visitors back to the Stone Age with finds from the excavations and information about the first female figurines in human history. As part of a project curated by Kunst im öffentlichen Raum NÖ, a female artist creates her very own Venus for Willendorf at the site every year.

The original Venus can be found in the Natural History Museum in Vienna.
